It couldn’t be easier
There are several ways to get yourself to Vava’u.
Option 1: Via Tongatapu. Fly to Tongatapu, the main Island of Tonga. Arriving at the International airport of Nuku’alofa (Airport code TBU) you then take a Real Tonga domestic flight to Vava’u (airport code VAV).
International flights coming through Tongatapu can be done direct from Sydney with Virgin Australia or via Auckland with Air New Zealand.
The domestic airline ‘Real Tonga’ offers daily flights (except Sundays) between the main island (TBU) and Vava’u (VAV).
Arrival times on the main island may require you to “overnight” before catching the domestic flight. As facilities at the International and Domestic airports are limited we suggest that you make use of the very conveniently located Scenic Hotel or (add in Dave Hunts place).
Option 2: Via Nadi Fiji.
Fiji Airways provide direct flights to Vava’u from Nadi, Fiji.
This means routes such as Aust-Fiji-Vavau; USA-Fiji-Vavau; NZ-Fiji-Vava’u, Hong Kong-Fiji-Vavau Tokyo-Fiji-Vava’u and Singapore-Fiji-Vava’u are all possible.
