Biosecurity: Tongan law requires all visitors to declare ant biosecurity risk goods including food, plants, plant products and animal products on arrival. Failure to do this may result in fines or confiscation.

Currency: The local currency is the pa’anga. 1 pa’anga = 100 seniti (cents)

Cash and credit cards: Cash is generally used in small local stores and markets. Hotels, restaurants and bars will accept credit cards. It is always best to check with them on arrival to avoid any inconvenience.

Banks: Financial services are provided by the ANZ Bank and BSP Bank. (Both have ATM machines in Vava’u.

Climate: Vava’u enjoys a mild tropical climate averaging 30 c in summer (November to April)  and 24 c in winter (May to October).

Communications: Internet and telephone services are provided by both Digicel and TCC. Local sim cards are available to visitors.

Dress: Casual and relaxed is the dress. Modest dress is advised  when in the villages and towns. Beach attire is reserved for the resort and beach.

Duty Free: There is a small selection of duty free available at the Vava’u airport.

Electricity: Vava’u operates of 240 volts 50HZ. The power points are the three pin types common in Australia and New Zealand.

Taxi: There is a local taxi service in Vava’u. Rarely is there an empty taxi waiting at the airport so make sure you arrange a pick up via your hotel or group co-ordinator.
